Marine science & biodiversity informatics
I'm a marine scientist and data engineer, working as a biodiversity informatician at UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission.
At IOC-UNESCO, I lead the development and maintenance of the OBIS marine biodiversity platform, and provide support to the OBIS network as well as to users of OBIS data. Besides my work on the core OBIS infrastructure I also develop software and platforms for data publishing, quality control, and data analysis.
At ADMB (now Liantis), I designed and built IT systems for the occupational health subsidiary, including a platform for registering, analysing, and synchronising workplace environmental exposure data.
At Colruyt Group, I handled technical analysis and delivery of logistics projects for order picking and transport across Colruyt Group brands (Colruyt, Colruyt France, Bio-Planet, and Dreamland). I scaled up e-commerce home delivery and developed an automated freezer warehouse with our industrial automation partner.
At NIOO, I carried out field, laboratory, and desktop-based research for international projects and initiatives such as Westbanks, BOOM, CARBOOCEAN, and MARBEF. This included field sampling, mesocosm experiments, chemical analyses, ecological modelling, image analysis, and time-series analysis.
